Email bounces and failed SMS share the same root cause: dirty lists before you send

If you run campaigns from imported lists, you already know where the money leaks: the CSV looks clean in a spreadsheet, and the problems only show up after you pay to verify or send — or after your sender reputation takes a hit.

The problem is not just "invalid numbers." A number can pass basic formatting and still be:

  • a landline or VoIP line when you need mobile for SMS
  • ported to a new carrier (MNP) so your old carrier route is stale
  • not registered on WhatsApp / Telegram / RCS when you plan that channel
  • duplicated 3-4 times across merged CSVs

And for email, an address can pass syntax and still have no MX, be disposable, or be a role account that will bounce.

What to check before you pay to verify or route:

  1. E.164 normalization — standardize international formats
  2. Deduplication — remove exact and normalized duplicates
  3. Line-type lookup — mobile vs landline vs VoIP
  4. Carrier / MNP check — current carrier after porting
  5. Reachability signals — WhatsApp / Telegram / RCS + email MX / disposable

Example: A 50k list with 12 percent malformed, 8 percent duplicates, 15 percent landlines when targeting mobile, and 5 percent ported can waste 30-40 percent of verification and send costs if processed raw.
